Pure & Natural Deodorant Stone, Mini Stick Stick (2 oz)

Pure and Natural deodorant, Crystal deodorant stone.

I have been a frequent visitor to Belle & Herbs over the last couple of years and it's my pleasure to write this feature on what in my opinion is one of the best coffee shops/cafes in the Newcastle area. The caf is not just style over substance though.

It is often said that in the North east that they are friendliest people in Britain; therefore all our restaurants in Newcastle and the North East should be friendly!

I will outline some of my favourite restaurants in Newcastle Upon Tyne which I have been to and repeatedly go back to.

If you're looking for food on the go, then Sketches are a good choice. Inspired by travels to Africa, the Caribbean, Italy, France and Spain this Newcastle deli certainly breaks the lunchtime monotony of tuna savouries or chicken salads.

The coffee is excellent and there are a range of tea's, hot chocolate, and cold drinks available including their excellent fresh smoothies. Food wise there is an extensive breakfast menu and impressive list of sandwiches, my favourite being the Christmas sandwich available all year round.

There is nothing like a restaurant which has a good local feel to it. Some place where you can go in and be greeted by someone as though you go there every day.

I came across a new website recently which takes this concept and gets people submitting reviews on restaurants in their local area which means it's from a perspective of people like yourself and not a food critic who dines out every night.

Where are the Best Places to Eat in Newcastle?

Delights such as the range of sandwiches, wraps and toasted Panini to name but a few are locally sourced with the breads being hand pulled and produced just up the road. Overall Sketches provides fantastic value for money and is one of the best places to eat in Newcastle.

Customer service is obviously important to this establishment, and customer comment slips are provided at the end of the meal which is a nice touch.

One big boost for dining in Newcastle is El Castano source as much of their food locally for freshness, and the rest tends to be specially imported directly from Spain. I would whole-heartedly recommend this restaurant for a really enjoyable evening.

I realize that everyone doesn't have access to venison and lots of people have an opinion about it, but I know, if you like beef, you'll like these recipes.

My everyday Venison Stew Recipe:

I was born and raised in Virginia and my parents still live there and my dad hunts, ALMOST every day of the season. He killed 2 deer already and having visited over the holiday weekend, we brought some home to freeze. I feel very fortunate to have a resource (Dad). It's better than store bought and cheaper too.

I grew up on the stuff and I love it. What do we do with it? Well my favorite recipe of all is to follow Julia Child's recipe for Boeuf Bourguignon. I even served it at a private party for 150 people and even though it was labeled, people didn't see the label and many people who swear they do not eat venison, loved it. Better yet, hunters who eat venison all the time told us that it was the best they had ever eaten.

2 pounds venison stew meat

1 small onion, peeled

Several sprigs of parley, thyme and 1 bay leaf

3 tablespoons olive oil

2 cups chopped onions

1 cup chopped celery

1 cup chopped carrots

1 tablespoon chopped garlic

1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme

2 bay leaves

1/4 cup flour

4 cups stock

4 russet potatoes, peeled and cubed

4 carrots, peeled and sliced

3 T butter

1/4 cup flour

Salt and black pepper

Crusty bread

What else do we do with it? Venison Stew, Venison Jerky (my niece J.J.'s husband Chris makes the best), Venison ground up in everything from Spaghetti to Sloppy Joes, Venison Barley Soup, Venison
Mushroom Soup, Marinated Grilled Venison Kabobs, Venison Sausage, Venison ala Mode, Venison Roast, Stuffed Venison Roast, Venison Chili, Venison
Daube, Venison Steaks, Venison Chops, Venison medallions, Venison Braised in Balsamic Vinegar, Venison Enchiladas, Venison Burritos. That's enough to get you cooking!

The deer populations, at least in our area, are a are huge and a real menace. We have a compound around the vineyard to keep them out.
Too bad my husband doesn't hunt because it would help in reducing the population and keep good food on the table. In the meantime, enjoy these
recipes for venison and if you want recipes from the list above, do not hesitate to ask.

Venison - Ideas for Cooking, A Venison Recipe

Saute onions, celery and carrots in olive oil until onions are translusent. Add garlic and cook a minute longer. Add to venison and stock. Add potatoes,
carrots, thyme and bay leaves. Cook until potatoes and carrots are done. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Make a roux with butter and flour
stirring until lightly browned. Add to venison off the heat and whisk in to remove lumps. Serve with bread for dipping.

Pressure cook venison with onion and herbs, with enough water to cover under pressure for 30 minutes. If you don't have a pressure cooker, you can
simmer; it will just take alot longer. Cool, strain, reserving stock. Shred venison.

"Tis the season for venison!"

Thai Tamarind Concentrate - 16 oz jar

Tamarind sauce is a critical ingredient in many Thai foods, including the famous Pad Thai. Tamarind sauce is commonly used in various northern Thai dishes as a souring agent. Tamarind is also used in the manufacturing of ketchups, sauces--Chinese, Worcestershire, Barbecue, etc. Tamarind is also very effective as a natural preservative and marinade. Usually tamarind paste is mixed with water and strained, the resulting tamarind juice being what's used. This product is a concentrated form of tamarind juice (and very convenient to use because it removes the need for mixing & straining). Click ImportFood.com above to view our other products. Now I have to admit a few things here: I'm a born and bred California girl, never have liked beef and I was freezing!

Johnny's Italian Steakhouse in Omaha NE Review

Recently I took my first solo flight to Omaha, Nebraska to speak to a group of rheumatologists and their staff. The restaurant holding the private dinner was Johnny's Italian Steakhouse at the west end of the city in a fairly new outdoor mall.

The coffee was good, poured hot and the size of the mugs were perfect.

Most of our group did order the filet mignon. Mine order came without the cabernet sauce and I had garlic-steamed broccoli in lieu of the garlic mashed potatoes, which were thankfully not over-cooked. The filet was actually quite tasty and tender. One lady had the angel hair pasta with grilled chicken and fresh basil, which looked equally good.

However, as soon as I walked in, the atmosphere was warm, cozy, smelled wonderful and a very friendly hostess walked me back to the private dining room where my speech was to take place. From there, the waiters came over to ask me what I would like to drink. Having a food allergy, I asked them for suggestions as to what would be the best of the offered entrees/side dishes to order. They told me they'd be happy to make sure whether I ordered the filet mignon, the double-cut stuffed pork chops, grilled salmon or angel hair with grilled chicken, they'd have the chef adapt the meal to fit my needs. They also checked on what appetizers were being served and informed me which ones were "safe".

Would I go to Johnny's Italian Steakhouse if it were in my own backyard? You bet. Good food, good atmosphere and a wonderful staff-what more could you want when dining out?

I had to pass on dessert, but the seasonal peppermint cheesecake or the decadent chocolate lava cake both had me wishing I didn't have food allergies to cow products.

The Danish Legacy in Bangkok

Andersen & Co went on be become the East Asiatic Co in 1897 and Bangkok became the company's first overseas branch office.
The company was granted the teak concession and rice exports from Thailand.

In 1906 Westenholz started United Plantations which is one of the largest plantation groups in Malaysia today with plantations in Indonesia as well.

On 26 April 2008, HM Queen Margrethe of Denmark celebrated her 68th birthday. The Royal Danish Embassy in Bangkok commemorated the occasion with a grand function which also marked 150 years of diplomatic relations between the two kingdoms.

A year later, Westenholz took over management of the Siam Electric Co Ltd which supplied power to Bangkok and provided an electric tramway service for the city.

Before he left Thailand in 1902 after 27 years of service, Richelieu was promoted to Vice-Admiral. King Rama V honoured him with the Most Illustrious Order of Chula Chom Klao and an embroidered golden robe.

Today, EAC has grown to an international company dealing in processed food, industrial chemicals and moving and relocation services, with a listing on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. The old East Asiatic Co building next to the Oriental is still there.

De Richelieu served in the Royal Thai Navy in various capacities and saw action during the 1893 French naval blockade of the Chao Phraya and bombardment of Bangkok as part of their territorial demands.

Richelieu's grandson Allan Aage Hastrup eventually inherited the robe and reportedly put it up for auction in 2007 with a potential buyer waiting in the wings.

The Danish legacy has come home. But will it stay home?

The third prominent Dane, a civil engineer, came to Bangkok in 1885. Svend Aage Westenholz started his career in Bangkok managing a horse tram service. As a former Danish artillery officer, he volunteered for the Thai army together with other Danes in Bangkok during the crisis in 1893.

The Danish support for the Thais in the conflict with France prompted an angry French demand that the Danes be dismissed (New York Times, August 1893). The demand was ignored. Richelieu went on to become the first and only foreign commander-in-chief of the Royal Thai Navy, from 1900 - 1901.

The Danish Legacy in Bangkok

In 1865 during the reign of King Rama IV, two Danish sea captains started a hotel on the Chao Phraya River to cater for seafarers and traders after a long journey from Europe. The history of this hotel turned a new page with the arrival in 1786 of another Danish mariner, H.N. Andersen.

Unlike relations with Britain and France, Danish relations with Thailand were not soured by colonial ambitions. The Danes came as friends and many contributed their services to the kingdom. In reviewing Danish Thai relations, three prominent Danes come to mind.

However, 106 years later, that magnificent robe found its way back to Bangkok, courtesy of the Royal Danish Embassy, Bangkok. It was on display on the evening of 26 April 2008 at HM Queen Margrethe's birthday celebrations fittingly held at the Royal Ballroom, the Oriental Bangkok.

The Danish legacy in Bangkok dates back to the reign of King Rama IV (1851 - 1868). Save for one prominent landmark, there's little to remind a visitor of the early Danish presence. However it took an event in April 2008 to trigger a search on the contribution of the early Danish pioneers in Bangkok.

Andersen stayed on in Bangkok, started a trading company Andersen & Co in 1884 and then bought over the hotel in 1889. That humble hotel is the world renowned Oriental Bangkok today.

The Paknam line, a rail link from Bangkok to the Chao Phraya estuary, was a Belgian-Danish joint venture. This railway carried goods between the ocean going ships anchored at the Chao Phraya estuary and Bangkok. All that remains of this railway today is the road literally called "skirting the old Paknam line".
